Our Governance
Under the terms of the deed of trust and our standing regulations, operational affairs are delegated from the Trustees to a Board and a Council.
At the time of writing (January 2010), members of the Board of Management of the Academia Europaea Trust were: President - Professor Lars Walloe [Oslo, Norway]; Vice-President: Professor Sierd Cloetingh [Amsterdam, The Netherlands]; and Professor Roger Elliott [as Hon. Treasurer, Oxford, UK], Professor Ole Petersen (Cardiff, UK) and Professor Theo D'Haen (Leuven, Belgium).
The membership of the AE, at their AGM in Naples (in September 2009) approved an expanded "interim" Board. This "interim" Board anticipates a change in the legal status and governance of the Academia Europaea, that will take effect from April 1st 2010. The "interim" Board will at that date, assume full legal responsibility subject to confirmation by the members at an AGM that has been scheduled for September the 9th, 2010.
Additional members of the "interim" Board include; Professors Peter Emmer (History, Leiden), Michel Ché (Chemistry, Paris), Cinzia Ferrini (Philosophy, Trieste) and Jerzy Langer (Physics, Warsaw).
Council members for 2009/10 are:
The President (as chair) and the Board of Management, plus
Chairs of Academic Sections (see current list), and
(up to) five independent members;
- Prof. Cinzia Ferrini (Trieste, Italy) - History of philosophy, retires 2010
- Prof. Jozef Gruska (Brno, Czech Republic) - Informatics, retires 2010
- Prof. Margit Sutrop (Tartu, Estonia) - Philosophy, retires 2010
There are curently no Co-opted members
